Oh, how I LOVE happy smiles, glowing light, tiny toes and sibling shinanigans! This family was one of my first clients back in the day when they were a family of three. Fast forward many years and they are a joyous family of five!

Mom was kind of bummed she never got newborn pictures of the baby, so she wanted me to focus a lot on the littlest member of their family. When I realized we were quickly running out of light, and I still had a few more shots we wanted to get, I decided to do an extra little 20 minute mini shoot of just her the following week. I adore this little bundle and her contagious merriment!

This sweet family is building a new home and I what Mom wrote  about why she wanted to do this photo shoot on the land makes my heart smile… We’ll be on our empty acreage in Magnolia. This is the site where our home will be built over the next year or two. As of now, we believe this will be our long-term homestead, the place that our children come home to for Christmas/holidays when they’re grown. For now, the land is rather new to us. But it’s where we will explore and build adventures, try our hand at things like growing vegetables or raising chickens, dreams will be lived out and memories will be made. If anything could be captured in these photos, I want it to be centric to our family (not necessarily the place), but a sense of what’s at hand for us there…”

My boy.

He’s a cooing machine now. It is the kiddo’s mission every day when they get home from school to collect coos and smiles.

He’s got a LOT to tell us though those coos.

mmmmmmmm.

I don’t know about you, but I love little baby hinnies and rolls.

Ahhhh… life with “the baby.”

Our family has a baby. And he is positively yummy.

It’s been so cold in Houston that I have not gotten the chance to get any outdoor shots of him. Boo.

the woodlands family photographer_houston photographer_www.spryart.com__375

The best place to shoot inside the house is in the master bedroom… so this is where we have been hanging out.

In case you were wondering, he is wearing gDiapers. I was really put off by the thought of the zillions of diapers he would end up using in his lifetime taking 500 years to decompose in a landfill, so I started researching cloth diapers before he was born. There are so many options out there! I finally settled on these hybrids- they can be full on cloth diapers or parts of them can be flushed/composted/ or thrown away (the throw away part is biodegradable unlike traditional diapers.) A bonus is that they are SO stinkin’ CUTE!  There are a lot of pros and cons to hybrid diapers and I would be more than happy to chat with anyone interested in my experience!

I am trying very heard to live with the mantra – “Be Inconvenienced” – when it comes to the environment.  I.e.- it’s OK to be a little bit inconvenienced if it means making our earth a little bit cleaner, safer, and healthier.

Back to work before it’s baby holding time again (the dude likes to be held. A LOT).

After a six week maternity leave, I am slowly easing back into work, so I will start posting a bit more. My March is full with sessions, so book now if you want a Spring session, they are filling up fast!

Here’s a pic of my loves <3<3<3.

It’s unheard of to have all the kids dressed in normal looking clothes (instead of the leggings, athletic shorts, T-shirts, boots combo they like to sport) AND have the baby asleep and content, so I dragged them all out into the street last night to snap this pic.

Color or B/W? I can’t choose. But one of them is getting blown up big, because I simply adore this image of my loves.

And he is AMAZING.

Born January 15- Timothy James- “TJ” entered our lives. He is named after one of Jesse’s best friends that left this earth entirely too early. If you knew him, you would understand why we wanted to name our son after him. We knew we wanted Timothy to be either the first or the middle name if we had a boy, but we had all kinds of unique names picked for the other half of the name.  As it turns out, we decided on the name once we saw his sweet little face. He just looked so All American, we went with a more traditional name (James is Jesse’s middle name).

The kids are SO in love with him. I highly recommend bringing a newborn into your life if you have older kids. They seriously cannot get enough of him (I’ve even had to break up a couple of fights over whose turn it was to hold him). I hope this lasts!

They have had some funny little moments too. Jude cannot understand the semantics of feeding him. He says I am milking him since its a liquid and not a solid he is getting!

the woodlands family photographer_houston photographer_www.spryart.com__127

I told Jesse it was time to bathe him the other day because he had milk curdles in his neck and his hair was greasy. Kaylee piped up and said “Hey! He’s just like me!” Ahhhh. My little free spirit that just does not like to bathe.

the woodlands family photographer_houston photographer_www.spryart.com__128

Emily came home from school and declared she was going to hurry up and wash her hands so she could “pet” him.

the woodlands family photographer_houston photographer_www.spryart.com__129

And Presley couldn’t even WAIT to hold him the other day. I set her up on the couch with the Boppy and checked on them after a few minutes. She had her Nook resting on his head while she read. I should have known better.

This year alone, approximately 13,500 parents will have to listen to a doctor tell them, “Your child has cancer.”  Can you imagine?

I am so honored to be accepted as part of this project.  The Gold Hope Project is a group of photographers that have come together to capture the moments that  families fighting childhood cancer hold so dear to their heart. We have all been given a gift that we would like to share with those families, completely free of charge.

These purposes include:

  • Capturing images of any child 21 and under with a Cancer diagnosis
  • Educating communities in which we live about Pediatric Cancer
  • Support, Encourage and raise funds for Pediatric Cancer Research
  • Resources for families who are facing a recent diagnosis
  • Support community of other families who are facing similar Cancer diagnosis
  • To photograph any child 21  and under with a current of past cancer diagnosis. They can be at any stages of treatment of be a childhood survivor.

Please help me spread the word about The Gold Hope Project! It is a relatively new organization and we can’t help the families if no one knows about us.
